Abstract

Art has been an important part in education divided into visual, decorative and performing arts. It helps a person to construct identity, calm down, develop emotional intelligence, and also help on the society reconstruction. On the other hand, multiple intelligences are a theory suggested by Gardner with nine different intelligences to construct problem solving and to acquire knowledge. However, he did not mention which of the component or which of the combination of multiple intelligences are related to arts learning. This study is to determine the relationship of multiple intelligences and art academic achievement among tertiary education students in Selangor, Malaysia. It can be concluded from this study that Logic, creative, analytical, abstract thinking, emotion, observation, hand-on, able to work alone and communication are essential skills to help student learning in art education. All intelligences are important in helping tertiary art students to perform in art academic. High logical thinking, philosophy, emotional stability and non-verbal communication predict a better performance in art academic.
